Understanding Your Child. Finding the Right Support.

Every child develops differently. If you have concerns about your child’s communication, learning, behaviour, or development, an assessment can help you understand their strengths and identify areas where support may be needed.
At Daffodils Child Development Centre, we bring together clinical observations, standardised tools where appropriate, and parent insights to guide assessment, diagnosis when indicated, and individualised recommendations.

What Does an Assessment Include?

The assessment process is tailored to your child’s age, concerns, and referral needs. It may include:
  • Initial consultation: Understanding your concerns and developmental history.
  • Parent questionnaires: Gathering information about everyday skills and behaviour.
  • Child observation: Understanding how your child communicates, plays, learns, and interacts.
  • Standardised assessments: Using appropriate developmental, cognitive, language, sensory, or behavioural tools.
  • Additional information: Consulting teachers or other professionals, where appropriate and with consent.
  • Feedback and recommendations: Explaining findings and discussing practical next steps.
Not every child requires every component or test.

Assessment Tools We May Use

Depending on the referral question and your child’s needs, assessment tools may include:
Autism
ADOS-2, CARS-2 and other appropriate diagnostic measures.
Speech and language
PLS, CELF, LPT, Rossetti Infant-Toddler Language Scale, articulation and fluency measures.
Development
BSID, DASII and DST.
Cognitive abilities
WISC, WPPSI and MISIC, where age-appropriate and suitable.
Learning
WRAT and relevant NIMHANS assessment tools.
Sensory and functional skills
Appropriate sensory profiles, functional communication measures, and daily living assessments.
ADHD
Standardised rating scales, developmental history, clinical interviews, and information from multiple settings.
The tools selected depend on the child’s age, language, developmental level, and the question being assessed. Screening tools alone do not establish a diagnosis.

What Happens After the Assessment?

You will receive feedback on your child’s strengths, areas of difficulty, and recommended next steps. Where indicated, this may include further evaluation, therapy, educational support, home strategies, or referral to another professional. Our goal is to help you understand your child and make informed decisions about their support.
