Our Evidence-Based Approaches

The Right Approach for the Right Child

Every child is unique. Their therapy should be too.
At Daffodils Child Development Centre, we draw on evidence, clinical expertise, and your child’s individual needs to plan meaningful therapy. Our multidisciplinary team selects approaches based on each child’s strengths, developmental profile, communication, sensory and feeding needs, and family priorities. We adapt our strategies as your child grows and develops.

Our Therapeutic Approaches

Communication, Language and Speech

Early Start Denver Model (ESDM)

A naturalistic developmental behavioural approach that uses play and everyday interactions to support early communication, social engagement, and learning.

DIR Floortime

A relationship-based developmental approach that builds engagement, emotional connection, communication, and shared interaction through a child’s interests.

Hanen-Based Parent Coaching

Helps parents encourage communication and language development during everyday play, conversations, and routines.

Gestalt Language Processing

Supports children who learn language in larger chunks or meaningful phrases, with strategies tailored to their individual language development and communication needs.

Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets (PROMPT)

A tactile-kinesthetic approach that uses structured touch cues to support speech-motor control and speech production when clinically appropriate.

Oral Placement Therapy (OPT)

Uses specialised oral-motor tools and activities to address specific oral sensory-motor or speech-related goals when indicated by assessment.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

Provides additional ways for children to communicate, including gestures, pictures, communication boards, and speech-generating devices.

Sensory and Occupational Therapy

Sensory Integration Approaches

Used by appropriately trained occupational therapists when indicated to support sensory processing and participation in everyday activities.

Behaviour and Development

Positive Behaviour Support and Functional Behaviour Assessment

Helps us understand what contributes to a behaviour, address underlying needs, adapt environments, and teach meaningful alternative skills.

Feeding and Swallowing

Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Approach to Feeding

Uses gradual, structured food exploration to help children develop comfort and familiarity with foods, alongside individualised feeding goals.

SOFFI (Supporting Oral Feeding in Fragile Infants)

A cue-based approach designed for medically fragile infants to support safe, responsive oral feeding.

Infant-Driven Feeding (IDF)

Uses an infant’s behavioural cues, readiness, and feeding tolerance to guide feeding opportunities and support responsive care.
Feeding and swallowing interventions are selected according to the child’s developmental and medical needs, with appropriate collaboration with paediatricians and other healthcare professionals.

How Do We Choose the Right Approach?

We begin by understanding your child’s strengths, needs, and everyday challenges. Our therapists then develop an individualised plan using approaches appropriate to the child’s goals, age, and clinical profile. We review progress regularly and adapt the plan as needed. No single approach is right for every child.

Parents Are Our Partners

We help parents and caregivers use practical strategies during play, communication, mealtimes, and daily routines so that learning can continue beyond therapy sessions.

Progress That Matters in Everyday Life

Progress may mean communicating a need, joining a game, trying a new food, managing a daily routine, or participating more confidently at school.
Evidence informs our practice. Your child’s needs guide the journey.
